To the Northern youths, save your region before it is too late. And if you feel I’m being too direct, here are a few reasons.👇
Your region is but with a snag, but as far as I am concerned you appear to live in oblivion. And like I always mention to those that know me well;
“The greatest problem in life is to have a problem yet remain oblivious of the existence of a problem.”
However, I need not reiterate the fact that Nigeria is currently in a bad state, but I bet the Northern Nigeria is in its worse. This submission I know would be greeted with contrasting views, but any archive that will bring forth this write up in another two decades would surely concur with what the Northern Nigeria would have amounted to.
And the need for the Northern youth to take action? Here👇
With the recent happenings in the country, this is indicating that no region in this amalgamated Nigeria is ready to sacrifice her peace and progress for the sake of a united Nigeria.
First of, the Yorubas whom prior to now seemed to advocate for a united Nation are beginning to mince words, no thanks to the current spate of insecurity emanating from the North and seemed to extend to the South in recent times.
Unfortunately however, the powers that be actually insinuated that the recent happenings was due to the forthcoming 2023 politics, I bet this is only a ploy to deceive the gullible as always. Make a brisk walk to the streets in Southern Nigeria, the people therein are extremely angry that if the Northern Nigeria would continue to be a burden to the entire country, there is no way it will not be said of Nigeria in the shortest possible time that ‘ to thy tents oh Israel’. And at this stage, the North would gave been left alone to bear its own cross.
Not forgetting that there are actually three factors that determines the future of a country, unfortunately however, while Nigeria as a Nation is not fairing any better in all of these parameters, the North are performing quite worse in all. These however are : Education, Economy and Security.
- Education : This remains the bedrock of any better society. And then also I maintain that the disparity in what is being witnessed today between the North and the South is the handwork of the previous leaders of both regions. Starting with the current trend at which the Boko Haram sect attacks and targets Educational facilities, this is a clear indication that the North does not value academics. Or is this not glaring with the current trend of Bandits kidnapping school children for ransom. A clear act of the future being destroyed from the present. However it is disappointing that the North is not even looking forward to churning out more of people like Aminat Mohammed, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, in lieu they keep breeding youths in the likeness of Shekau of the Boko Haram sect. Needless to further analyse that education in the North is ailing hence failing, irrespective of the ‘feeding bottle’ federal system that is being practiced in Nigeria which allows every state to have one Federal University, yet the disparity between the educational system in the north and south is still alarming. Check the number of private Universities in Nigeria, out of the 99 registered private universities, 72 are in the South. Imagine! 72 out of 99, that’s like 72%. Need more reason to know that Education is a failed venture in the North?
- Economy: I had lived my entire life in the South West until 2012 that I was posted to Sokoto state for my NYSC, that was when I knew that poverty is more intense in the North. The number of functioning companies in my local government as at then were more than the number of companies in the entire Sokoto state. The figures are there, compare the banking assets in the south to the north, compare insurance companies assets too. How about the contribution of each region to the total country’s GDP, and the poverty rate? Compare all economic pointers with that of the souh, the difference is there and very clear. But as bad as it is currently, it is going to be worse if the northern youths don’t come together to save their region. And the reason is not far fetched, an average investor will not transit himself to Bornu for instance to invest his money, not with the spate of killings therein.With this the simple economy implication is that, Northern region will become more poorer in the nearest future if nothing is done.
- Security : There is no need to spend much energy on this, it is there for everyone to see. Insecurity in Nigeria is in a bad state but it is in extremely worse state in northern Nigeria.
HOW CAN NORTHERN YOUTHS SAVE THEIR REGION?
Power only benefits the few. I expect Northern youths to know that power only benefits the few and so should stop worrying their heads over who becomes the leaders in their region and Nigeria as a whole. By this I mean the youths should refuse to buy into an idea of ‘my Arewa brother’ or ‘my Muslim brother ‘ as someone who becomes a leader but rather concentrate on the competency of the leader and hold such leaders responsible at every point in time without any tribal or religion sentiment.
By so doing, they would have ended up saving not just their region, but Nigeria as a whole if we must remain as one.
